This paper presents an analytical 2D-method to estimate the flux density distribution - especially in the air gap - of a brushless permanent magnet AC motor with interior (radial magnetized) magnets, taking into account the effects of saturation bars, pole caps and a slotted stator. The method is based on the linear solution of Maxwell’s field equations. A nonlinear magnetic circuit model is used to consider the flux losses across the short circuit bars and the effect of the pole caps. Stator slotting is incorporated in the model by applying a conformal transformation of the smooth stator to the slotted contour. Finally the results of the air gap flux density distribution in radial and tangential direction are compared with finite element calculations. |
