Zusammenfassung: Bearingless motors employ special winding systems and control methods that combine magnetic levitation and rotation functions in a single motor unit. Disc-shaped designs enable contactless operation with only three actively controlled degrees of freedom. This facilitates the design of very compact drive systems such as wear-free pumps and other applications that do not need rigid rotor guidance. Since the nineties bearingless motor technology has continuously evolved and many innovations have been generated. This paper introduces some trends and technical advancements that have been made in recent years by the research groups of ACCM, JKU and LCM in Linz, Austria.
